Since graduating from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a BA (Hons) degree in Fine Art, Charlotte Ashby has combined her dual passions for animals and art by establishing herself as an accomplished equine and animal artist.

Charlotte believes the key to a successful painting is not only capturing the likeness of the animal but even more importantly, their essence and personality. As a horse and dogs owner herself she understands their personalities are individual, and each unique. Capturing this uniqueness is what Charlotte strives to achieve.

She likes to meet the animals she paints and photograph them herself, enabling her to study them and gain a greater understanding of their characteristics and idiosyncrasies. However where meeting the animal is not possible, Charlotte has created beautiful portraits from clients' own photographs.

Charlotte is passionate about her work, all of her portraits to date have been met with highly positive testimonials from her clients, which, as Charlotte notes, is her ultimate aim:

'The overwhelmingly positive response from my clients has been a great reward for the work I put into capturing my subjects and makes the effort so worthwhile.'

Charlotte specialises in watercolour; its myriad qualities allow for both delicate lines and strong colours, making this medium the perfect complement to Charlotte's talents. She is also adept at painting in other mediums, including oils and pencil drawings. If you are interested in finding out more about her work, would like to commission a portrait or offer feedback on a commissioned work, please don't hesitate to contact her.
